In 1999, Ven. Thupten Ngodup, the Nechung Kuten founded the Bay Area Nechung Buddhist Center. Kuten La envisioned the Dharma Center as a place where local Tibetans and Westerners could study and practice Tibetan Buddhism without regard to sect.

The Bay Area Nechung Buddhist Center, affiliated with the Nechung Monastery in Dharamsala, is now a 501c3 nonprofit religious organization.

The Center is dedicated to promoting the culture and wisdom of the Tibetan Buddhist Tradition to people of all walks of life.
